Join us for a night of old and new friends gathering to support our friend Gary " Tiger" Balletto for this night themed "One More Round". This night will be an evening full of entertainment. Funny4Funds will have a great line up of local comedians, highlights of Gary's career and what it takes for a Champion to overcome whatever the challenge in or out of the ring on the big screen. Special Guest speaker will be Gary himself and we will have a great selection of live auction items as well.
This event will benefit Gary's newly established non-profit organization, The Gary "Tiger" Balletto Foundation. The mission statement and foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, therapy with adaptive equipment and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information, advocacy and providing services to those who qualify.
Gary was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. After losing his father to cancer at the age of ten, he was raised by his then single mother. After his father’s passing, his mom moved his younger brother Dion and him quite a few times until settling in Cape Coral, Florida. It was there that he attended junior high and high school while working, playing sports, and helping his mother around the house. He moved back to Rhode Island after graduating high school and started his first business at the age of eighteen.
Gary was a natural athlete and participated in many sports from a very young age, including gymnastics (he could walk on his hands at the age of 4!), baseball, football, basketball, wrestling and track. However, it was boxing that was in his blood and after hearing countless stories of his father and grandfather’s success in the sport, he decided to give it a try.
He joined the Rhode Island boxing gym where he met his lifelong trainer that first day, Kurt Reader. Gary developed a passion for the sport and after just 15 amateur bouts, went on to win three Golden Glove titles, competed at a national level, making it all the way up to fight #1 in the country. Gary's trainer decided to start his professional boxing career at the age of 20. Starting off with a draw in his pro debut, Gary won his next 17 fights all by way of knockout! He finished with a career record of 31 Wins, 3 Losses and 2 Draws with 26 KO’s, walked away with three titles, USBF, EBA, and IBU World Lightweight Title, and was seen on National TV twelve times. Most recently, he was "A Fan Favorite" on the Reality TV show “THE CONTENDER” Season 2! Throughout his career, he had 36 professional fights and was lucky enough to have never been knocked out!
His film debut premiered in 2005. He starred in a documentary titled, “SWEET DREAMS” about his life and how he inspired the life transformation of a 21-year-old bookie which garnered great success. His current film work has been over 15 years in the making. The documentary, ‘TIGER’ tells the story of Gary “Tiger” Balletto, his rise to fame as a champion boxer, the personal story of his efforts to unionize the sport of boxing, the success of his three businesses, and his greatest joy, raising his three children. His incredible story took a tragic turn due to his recent, unfortunate accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down and then becoming a single father shortly after. Yet, it is his road back to recovery and his heroic story of guts, determination, tenacity, and passion that make this such an inspirational and heart-warming documentary.
Through it all Gary remains a hardworking business owner and due to his entrepreneurship, is the developer of a Construction Company, Real Estate Company, and Boxing Gym in Providence. He is also a Rhode Island Real Estate Broker, General Contractor and a Real Estate Investor and has bought and sold over 100 properties to date!
No matter what life throws at him, he always has a smile on his face! Gary’s passion for life and his infectious spirit is driven by his love for his family. He has four older sisters, two younger brothers, three beautiful, talented, respectful children, that he is extremely proud of, Gary 22, Hailey 18, and Aiden 11 years old and a beautiful girlfriend who he is very much in love with, Jennifer.
